“At this moment, there are 6 billion, 4 hundred, 70 million, 8 hundred, 18 thousand, 6 hundred, 71 people in the world. Some are running scared.. some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day.. others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men at war with good, and some are good.. struggling with evil. 6 billion people in the world, 6 billion souls – and sometimes.. all you need is 1.”—Peyton Sawyer. One Tree Hill
Lionsgate announced yesterday that they were planning on doing a remake of Dirty Dancing. As a huge fan of the movie (I was tiny and vulnerable and Johnny made me feel things I’d never felt: undying love was born), I’m not sure how I feel about the news yet. It kind of seems to me like I have a baby unicorn and someone wants to have a baby dinosaur but, like, as a clone of my unicorn, and they don’t even know what to feed the tiny thing or how to copy its DNA and they’re going to fuck it up and end up with a mosquito/worm. What I’m trying to say here, is that if you touch Dirty Dancing I will probably step on your face.
Okay, more seriously. I’m not into remakes. I think movies are for forever. They don’t need to be revisited. If the new generation can’t see what’s amazing in those movies, they don’t deserve to watch them. And you don’t have to make a new one to please them (aka to please yourself and make a lot of benefits). Except for Hairspray because it was brilliant.
BUT, I was born with this crazy ability called objectivity and I tend to use it a lot. Usually that’s when people start throwing rocks at me for seemingly liking something that’s bound to suck. Please. Take a step back, and look at the infos we’ve been given (which are, so far, not that numerous).
This Sunday Listen is a link to a site of a Swedish web radio called Gimme Indie. The occasionally steam live concerts and last Monday they steamed Wakey!Wakey!. I couldn’t attend their concert in Berlin and this was very nice to actually be able to listen to a concert online with a good…
